Post Occupancy Evaluation of School Refurbishment Projects: Multiple Case Study in the UK

Buildings inevitably deteriorate with time. Schools buildings are no exception and require refurbishment at times. Despite the UK Government announcing £1 billion funding for rebuilding 50 schools over 10 years starting 2010–2021, it is common practice builders designers to, upon completion of a building project, move on to next development without considering how completed performs. This research undertakes post occupancy evaluation (POE) three in West Midlands, specific focus services, viz., heating, lighting, air conditioning ventilation. The adopted mixed philosophical approach interpretivism post-positivism conduct inductive reasoning. A questionnaire that collected both quantitative qualitative primary data was distributed end-users schools. Data analysed using Cronbach’s alpha, one sample t-test Kruskal–Wallis test identify any differences between responses. Findings revealed users demanded greater control internal environment thus contradicting current trend automated ‘intelligent systems’ approaches. represents first work consider contractor’s perspective towards developing better understanding client satisfaction school buildings.
